We'll be back in the valley! 🌿
On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October we're singing at Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival, in beautiful Gangagruwan. And we're singing twice!
Saturday 17 at 12:40pm in the Koori Tent, then 2:30pm in the Pavilion.
Sunday 18 at 12 noon in St Joseph's Church.
A whole weekend of music, poetry and dance, 16 to 18 October, and we get to be part of it again. Big shout out to the festival for having us back. Yadingji 🙏🏽
Four years in the Koori Tent
Four years now the Koori Tent has been our gathering place.
Bubs dancing barefoot on Country. Aunties and Elders listening and nodding along. Harmonies rising and settling with the valley all around us.
We've sung in art galleries, at flag raisings, on festival stages and in plenty of loungerooms. All of it is a privilege. But the valley welcomes us like family every single time, and it still feels like coming home.
What a set with us looks like
A loose half circle (we're not precious about it), clapsticks, harmonies, a bit of stomping, and at least one of us laughing at the wrong moment, 'cause that's what happens when you put this many Aunties and sissies on one stage 😀
We sing in Dhurga, Dharawal and Gathang, and we always give you the English meaning too. We want you to understand it. Then we want you to sing it back with us. That's how the words come home.
So come sit with us. Bring the family - the bubs and the Elders. Say hello afterwards. Tell us where you're from.
The day after our first single
Our very first single, bulwal mabara wana bardju-dha (Strength, Vision, Legacy), comes out on Friday 16 October. The day before the valley!
Eleven of us wrote it together, yarning about what strength, vision and legacy mean to each of us. It's a promise to the next generation, with a Dhurga chorus about feet in the water and hands in the river.
The Kangaroo River runs right through the valley and on into Bungali, the Shoalhaven River, where Dhurga and Dharawal were spoken long before we started singing it. Same water.
Saturday is the first time we'll sing it live since it came out, and there's nowhere we'd rather do it.
Come sing it back to us. 🎶
There's more coming after this one, and the mob on our mailing list always hear it first. Sign up at the bottom of this page.
Tickets and the full program are on the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival website.
We give thanks to the Traditional Custodians of Gangagruwan, Kangaroo Valley, where we'll be singing.
